The Festival of Images in Vevey is remarkable. Go to the town and it is difficult miss. Enormous images are draped over buildings and posters are placed all along the lake shore. And then there is the exhibition centre on the lakeside by the CGN jetty. This is the focal point for this terrific festival of contemporary photography and many of the works on display are extraordinary for their creativity, size and interactivity. This is no stuffy room full of “The lake at sunset†shots. The photographers whose works are on display have an entirely different understanding and viewpoint from the expected. No matter your age or interests – you will be entertained. The festival presents the work of more than 65 artists from 15 countries. Amongst them, international figures such as Francis Alÿs, John Baldessari, Martha Cooper, Leandro Erlich, Lee Friedlander, Paul Fusco, Arno Rafael Minkkinen and Alex Prager. Organised by the Foundation Vevey ville d’images, the festival runs until 5 October.
