Tribune de Genève.
Bern reached a decision that means “rich” cantons will pay CHF 67 million less to “poor” cantons from 2016 to 2019 reported Tribune de Genève. The so called “rich” cantons include Zug, Schwyz, Geneva, Vaud and a number of others. Recipients include the cantons of Fribourg, Valais, Neuchâtel, Jura and Bern. The debate focused on a CHF 279 million “over payment” between 2012 and 2014. These equalisation payments (péréquation financière) have long been contentious and the latest compromise has pleased those paying and upset those on the receiving end.
