Wasps love summer heat and this summer has been particularly favourable for them, keeping Swiss exterminators very busy.
Wasps differ from bees in many ways. Bees eat nectar while wasps have a broader diet that includes meat, which means they are attracted to barbeques. In addition, wasps are more aggressive and can sting multiple times. Bees tend to mind their own business and die once they have administered their single barbed sting.
According to an article in 20 Minutes exterminator across Switzerland have been run off their feet with requests to remove wasp nests. Not only are there more wasps but more time is being spent outside this summer where most wasps live.
There are many ways to solve a wasp problem and some are low cost and don’t involve harmful chemicals. One is to pour soap suds into the nest. Making a fake nest out of a paper bag can also send them packing – they don’t like to nest next to another nest.
