The government of the canton of Vaud says jet-skis pose a danger to lake animals, in particular some birds. Safety is also a concern given the high speeds some jet-skis can reach.
In May 2017, an administrative tribunal in Grenoble, France overturned two rulings, clearing the way for jet skis to be used on the French portion of Lake Geneva. This ruling was the result of a ten-year legal battle launched by a French jet-ski fan. The regional government of Haute-Savoie was not happy. Now it, along with the government of Vaud have responded.
Jet-ski enthusiasts could be heading into choppy legal water on both sides of the lake.
