The Swiss government has issued winter holiday season traffic predictions. European winter school holidays fall between 27 January and 11 March 2018. Over this period, particularly on Saturdays, which are the weekly change over day, heavy traffic is predicted in the usual hotspots.
A number of passes are closed during winter, funneling more traffic into fewer routes. The A2 motorway, both entrances to the Gotthard tunnel and the A13 will be affected by this.
The worst times for traffic on roads heading to the mountains will be Saturdays. Everywhere else peak hours: 7am – 9am and 5pm – 7pm, will be the worst.
