The A6 and A7 3.0 diesel models, which are required to comply with Euro 6 standards, were found to have been equipped with illegal defeat devices affecting exhaust emissions.
FEDRO said that the cars could only be registered for Swiss roads once they have been proven to comply with the standards.
The ruling will only affects cars applying for registration after 10 August 2018. Cars already registered will not be impacted.
However, those buying secondhand vehicles abroad hoping to import them into Switzerland should watch out.
