The municipality Vilters-Wangs in the canton of St. Gallen, received a legacy of around 8 million francs recently. The estate of a German couple includes their house, securities and an art collection, which will be put on display next summer in the Kunstmuseum in St. Gallen.

The town of Vilters-Wangs has a population of around 4,800.
Leaving their assets to their local community was not easy and involved two years of legal and administrative work. According to the couple’s will, their property, inventory, cash and securities, which is entrusted to certain private individuals and church institutions, must be used for charitable and social purposes in the community.
Their art collection contains 57 paintings, 89 drawings and 1,358 prints from German and Dutch artists from the 15th to the 17th century.
Maria and Johannes Krüppel moved to Vilters-Wangs in 1987 and lived quietly in their house on Neugutstrasse.
The municipality said that the large gift is a unique event for the Vilters-Wangs community and thanked them for their generosity.
