On 5 January 2019, a Swiss version of the recent gilets jaunes (yellow vests) protest in France was born. The plan, publicized on social media, was to meet at various train stations around the country and take the train to Switzerland’s capital Bern to protest.
However, in Geneva, only three people turned up, according to the newspaper 20 Minutes. In Lausanne, there were three more, who, at the risk of confusion, were approached by two Swiss Rail police wearing the same yellow vests.
A video posted on Facebook shows around 30 people wearing yellow vests assembled outside the parliament building in Bern.
According to the newspaper Le Matin, yellow vest protestors are not welcome at Lausanne train station because they risk being confused with security staff.
