Switzerland set to strip Swiss jihadists of nationality

So far Switzerland’s government has not stripped any jihadists of Swiss nationality. However, various reports suggest the government is set to do so.

One case is currently being looked at, with others set to follow, according to Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter who was questioned by parliament.

The process starts by ensuring those involved have another nationality. The rules prevent leaving someone stateless. Out of the 93 Swiss identified as jihadists, 18 have been found to hold citizenship of another country.

The cases of the Swiss nationals arrested in Morocco in connection with the murder of two Scandinavian tourists will be looked at after they are released from prison in Morocco and return to Switzerland, should they be convicted, according to Keller-Sutter.
