In 2018, 5,356 babies were born in the Canton of Geneva, 97 fewer than in 2017.

The mothers of more than half (57%) of new borns in 2018 were 33 or over and 10% were 40 or over.
In 2000, the average age was 31.2 and 20 years ago only 5% of children were born to mothers 40 or over.
In 2018, Swiss and foreign mothers in Geneva had children at the same average age.
Births (5,356) in Geneva in 2018 exceeded deaths (3,384) by 1,972.
