The votes have been counted. The Swiss Statistics Office charts below show results by canton and district.

The initiatives to pay an unconditional income, to change the way state-owned companies are run, and to spend further fuel tax on transport infrastructure have all been rejected.

The vote on changes to asylum law has been accepted by 66.8% of voters. The Swiss People’s Party, which was against this initiative, said the government must now live up to its promises to not only process asylum applications faster, but to return failed applicants to their country of origin faster.

The vote to change the rules on genetic diagnosis in assisted procreation has been accepted by 62.4% of Swiss voters. Only the cantons of Appenzell Inner Rhoden, Appenzell Ausser Rhoden and Obwalden rejected it.

The universal income proposal was rejected by a wide margin. Over 80% of voters in most cantons rejected it and the nationwide result was 76.9% against it. Cantons where it got the highest support were: Basel-City (36.0%), Jura (35.8%) and Geneva (34.7%). Cantons with the most votes against it were Appenzell Inner Rhoden (87.4%), Nidwalden (86.8%), Obwalden (86.2%), and Schwytz (86.1%). No cantons saw a majority in favour of it.

The vote to change the way state-owned companies, such as Swiss Post and Swiss Rail, are run was rejected by 67.6% of Swiss voters. No cantons were in favour of it. The proposal to spend more fuel tax on roads was rejected by 70.8% of voters. Again no cantons showed a majority in favour of it.

The results of all federal votes were in line with the positions held by the Swiss federal council and parliament.

In Geneva, a cantonal vote to increase the minimum taxable income for wealthy foreign residents on lump sum tax deals, in line with federal rules, passed by a narrow margin of 54.0% to 46.0%. The Socialist Party was advising voters to reject this initiative in favour of a higher increase in the minimum taxable income. Another cantonal vote to link both sides of the lake in Geneva was accepted by 62.8% to 37.2%.
