According to protest organiser Climate Alliance, between 60,000 and 100,000 people gathered in Bern, Switzerland’s capital, last week to urge greater action on climate change. Climate Alliance, says it represents 80 environmental organisations.

Local police did not want to comment on the figure, but said there were large crowds of people, according to RTS. Some protestors were asked by police to avoid the square in front of the parliament building because it was full of people.
The protesters are demanding coherent policies to combat climate change and an exit from fossil fuels ahead of Switzerland’s federal election on 20 October 2019.
The Nobel prize winning chemist Jacques Dubochet, who was one of the protesters, called for a paradigm shift away from the belief that happiness can be achieved through consumption.
