Under investigation for accusations of rape, the judge decided to keep Ramadan in prison to protect witnesses from pressure, said those close to the case, according to the newspaper.
Investigators hope keeping him in prison will encourage other women to come forward with further testimony. Henda Ayari was the first to accuse the Muslim academic in October 2017.
Ramadan denies the accusations.
In January 2018, some close to Ramadan, launched a petition defending him.
In Switzerland, four former students of a college in Geneva have accused the academic of abuse, some when they were minors, according to Le Matin, however none have yet pressed charges.
Born in Geneva, Ramadan is a Swiss citizen. He is the grandson of Hassan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood.
