This Sunday, dragon boat teams will take to the waters of the picturesque Lac de Joux to battle it out in a race to raise money and awareness for cancer support in Switzerland.
There are two categories of teams: corporate and open. Each team requires a minimum of 16 paddlers, four of which are female. Participants must be at least 15 years of age – there are separate kids events.
Money raised helps fund the activities of the English Speaking Cancer Association (ESCA), which are aimed at helping those with cancer deal with the physical, emotional, and social demands of the disease, including individual counselling and different forms of group support in French-speaking Switzerland and neighbouring France.
The festival is a day full of activities that include face painting, magic shows, a craft corner, a bake and book sale and of course, dragon boat racing!
Extra paddlers are always welcomed. Some teams may need a stand-in or two.
