More people in Switzerland are exercising for 2.5 hours a week, a level recommended by Swiss sports organisations.

In 2002, 63% of the population across all of Switzerland was getting this amount of exercise. In 2017, 76% of the population spent this much time exercising, according to a study by the Federal Statistical Office that surveyed 21,000 people 15 years old and over.
At the same time, the percentage of people engaging in no physical activity dropped from 18% to 8% over the same period.
Another survey showed that men (76%) were more active than women (69%).
In addition, the study showed that German speakers were more active than French and Italian speakers. In 2012, 77% of Switzerland’s German speakers were active compared to 63% of French speakers and 61% of Italian speakers. These differences follow similar ones between the populations of northern (75%) and south-western Europe (60%).
