Every year, Switzerland gets a new president. It also gets a new photograph of its seven-member executive, known as the wise seven (sept sages) in French.
This year incoming president Alain Berset has broken with photographic tradition and come up with an animated image, which presents things typically Swiss.
The moving background designed by two artists, Stéphane Schmutz and Michel Cotting, from Berset’s home of Fribourg, has been dubbed Bundesart.
The photo, not the background, was selected from 55,000 snaps of the seven-member group. They are accompanied by Federal Chancellor Walter Thurnherr (far right) who is in charge of administration.
Alain Berset (centre-left), a 45-year-old economist from the canton of Fribourg who studied at the university of Neuchâtel, is a member of Switzerland’s Socialist Party. He is married with three children and is the youngest Swiss president since 1915, according the the newspaper Le Temps.
Switzerland changes its president every year. The position is ceremonial. Federal Council decisions are taken collectively.
