The sale of third party products generates around CHF 500 million for the company annually. After several vocal complaints the issue was taken up by the Swiss federal parliament and a national council commission was asked to look at reducing Swiss Post’s retail offer. Rather than wait for the commission’s report, Swiss Post announced on Thursday that it had acted.
Products such as books, stationary and greeting cards will stay on the shelves. Electrical goods, toys, car accessories and household items will be removed in stages from the first quarter of 2016.
Sweets and snacks will also go. The company expects its revenue to decline.
