A survey by the newspaper 20 Minuten, reveals that only 12% of those under 30 expect to be able to retire. More than half expect to have to work until 70. Nine out of ten are concerned about AVS provisions and only 2.1% are certain there will be enough money. 26% think it will be necessary to work until 67, 54% until 70 and 13% until 75 or possibly 80.

A project known as Pensions 2020 spearheaded by the federal state council proposes increasing the female retirement age from 64 to 65, in line with that for men. The plan designed to ensure the pension system is sustainable includes a VAT increase to cover future AVS shortfalls. The young people surveyed by 20 Minuten are not convinced.
