A record number of US citizens renounced their citizenship last year and one of the most common reasons for this was the costs and time required to comply with America’s complicated tax rules.
It seems that some in the US senate have heard the cries of their expatriates. A bipartisan group including Democrats and Republicans is seeking input from the public on tax reform. Submissions must be made by 15 April 2015.
Jonathan Koehler of Consular Affairs at the U.S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland said:
“The Senate Finance Committee is seeking input on tax reforms that could benefit U.S. citizen expats in Switzerland. The Senate Finance committee has 5 working groups, one is for international taxpayers, and they are soliciting comments from the public until April 15th. For those U.S. citizens who have had difficulties with their tax filing in the last few years, it is more necessary than ever that they make their opinions heard.”
