Over the weekend, Verbier hosted its opening day, an event where the resort attempts to assemble a record number of skiers dressed as St. Nicolas, or his redder equivalent Santa.

Unlike the red man himself, this year’s Claus turnout left last year’s tally of around 1,200 looking thin.
An official representing the Guiness World Records counted no fewer than 2,656 jolly red revellers. More than double last year’s figure. According to Televerbier this is a Swiss record.
The resort provided all those combining skiing and jolly redness with a free lift pass, drinks, end-of-day raclette and a 2-for-1 ski pass, for use during the season.
That might count as an early Christmas present.
